Hello Czech/American Citizens! (Vitejte Cesko/Americti Obcane!)
September 6, 2008
Welcome to this new site about the Czech Republic, Czech citizens, Czech culture, and much more. The site is created exclusively by a couple living in the U.S.A. One author was born in the Czech Republic and has lived in the U.S.A. for about 10 years. The second author was born in the U.S.A. but his parents are immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Both authors speak fluent Czech and English and have much to contribute to this site.

My wife's grandfather was youngest child of Czech born parents.
Jeff Sharp | August 7, 2011 | 10:02 amMy wife’s grandfather was youngest child of Czech born parents. Her great grandfather John Matejko was an officer in the Prussian army. The came to the U.S. in the early 1900’s via Ellis Island. Her grandfather would sing a Czech lullaby (in Czech). He would not translate it, so no one knows exactly what it was. One line goes as follows “grow up big and strong” or “grow up big and tall”. I have recently begun researching the Czech heritage of my wife’s family for my children. I believe John Matejko came from Bohemia…
Any help would be appreciated,
