A couple of days ago I introduced to you a new Czech national anthem composed by Varhan O. Bauer. Little did I know there will be more of them created for other official Czech holidays. Why is there so much interest in remaking our anthem? Can we even do that?

The new initiative of the Czech Prime Minister, Miroslav Topolanek, led to four new arrangements of the Czech national anthem. The public airing, according to Mlada Fronta Dnes, will be on Sunday, September 28^th, to celebrate the national holiday of Czech Statehood. Topolanek also declared that these new versions of the national anthem were performed by the orchestra of the National Theatre in Prague conducted by Jiri Belohlavek.

 ”There is no official anthem version of the Czech national anthem,” said Jakub Stadler the Czech government spokesman. “All four versions will be available on the web for downloads as well.” Miroslav Topolanek made a big mistake, though, when he stated that the anthems will be aired on September 28^th, which is Czech Statehood Day and not Independent Czechoslovak State Day as he originally mentioned.

Why are there people changing this historic piece of our heritage? Apparently, you can change the melody of the Czech national anthem but not the lyrics. If you make changes against the law, you can be fined up to 10,000 crowns ($680). I hope all these anthems will find their purposes and appropriate occasions without confusing Czech citizens at home and abroad.

Pred par dny jsem vam predstavila novou ceskou narodni hymnu slozenou Varhanem O. Bauerem. To jsem jeste ale nevedela, ze dalsi hymny budou vytvoreny pro dalsi ceske oficiallni svatky. Proc se lide zajimaji o predelavky nasi hymny? Museme to vubec udelat?

Cesky minstersky predseda, Miroslav Topolanek, si vyzadal ctyri verze ceske narodni hymny. Mlada Fronta Dnes oznamila, ze je predstavi verejnosti v nedeli 28. zari k oslave dne ceske statnosti. Topolanek also sdelil, ze tyto verze narodni hymny byly nahrany sborem Narodniho divadla pod vedenim Jiriho Belohlavka.

“Nikde neni oficialni verze ceske narodni hymny,” rekla Jakub Stadler, mluvci ceske vlady. ‘Vsechny ctyri verze budou dostupne na internetu i pro stahnuti.” Miroslav Topolanek ale udelal vekou chybu, kdyz oznamil, ze tyto hymny budou hrany 28. zari na den vzniku samostatneho ceskoslovenskeho statu, coz je ale spatne, protoze to je den ceske statnosti.

Pokud udelate zmeny, ktere jsou protizakonne, muzete zaplatit pokutu az 10.000 korun (680 USD).
