Today, we will begin directly with a recipe for my favorite soup. My mother cooked it whenever I asked her, because it was very simple to prepare and all of the ingredients were always at home.

MILLION SOUP (pronounce “MEELEEOHNOVAH POLEHVKAH”)

Ingredients:
Chicken or vegetable bouillon (cubes)
1 spoon of butter
1 egg (optional)
5 spoons of cream of wheat
Carrots (finely grated)
Root vegetables (optional - may also be finely grated or cut)
Green parsley or chives (optional)
Salt
Pepper

Have you seen the film All My Loved Ones? If so, you could see Sir Nicholas Winton. Sir Nicholas George Winton, born 19th May 1909, saved 669 Czechoslovak Jewish children from death in the World War II. The operation was known as “Kindertransport.”

Winton had a special relationship with the Jewish children because he was a Jew, who was baptized and raised a Christian. While Winton saved many children, he never applauded himself for this act or shared details about this operation. His wife actually found detailed information on the Kindertransport late in the 90s.

Today, on 28^th of October, Czech citizens will have a chance to see a two-hour parade to celebrate foundation of the independent Czechoslovakia. The parade will take place on Evropska Street in Prague 6 at 1 PM with 2,102 participants with 196 pieces of equipment.

The parade will include participation of the President of the Czech Republic, Czech defense minister, the Castle Guard units, Army of the Czech Republic, the Czech Republic Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Medical Rescue Services, and the City Police.

Clanek v CESTINE dole.

The new announcement by the Ministry of Interior identified countries that will be included in the Green Card program. As you remember, we announced this program over a month ago. So far 28 countries will be included but the list is not complete.

The Minister of Interior stated that their decisions were made based on security and health risks. Therefore, foreigners from countries not included in the list (below) won’t be able to apply for green cards but could apply for work permits.

Following other large airlines, Czech Airlines will also change the weight limit of economy class luggage. The original limit of 23 kg (51 lbs) will be reduced to 20 kg (44 lbs) starting Sunday, October 26^th. The business class weight limits will stay unchanged (30 kg = 66 lbs). The new measures will help to eliminate problems with other airlines because they have adopted the 20-kg rule already. This move should also lower the fuel cost per flight.

So, all economy travelers - don’t forget to pack lighter now or expect the overweight charges. Every kilogram extra can cost between 300 and 400 Czech crowns.

Shortly after the nominations, the Czech document named Rene won the main prize. This document, directed by Helena Trestikova, was portraying a Czech criminal Rene Plasil. It was the first Czech winner of the European Film Academy.

Rene was so successful that it also defeated its Czech opponent Obcan Havel (Citizen Havel) - recently played in Minnesota on 10/07 and London Film Festival on 10/22 and 10/26, and Muz na Lane (Man on the Rope) - the winner of this year’s Karlovy Vary festival. This was a big surprise for everybody, even for Helena Trestikova, since the nominations for this “European Oscar” were only announced last week.

Clanek v CESTINE dole.

On October 17, 2008 President George W. Bush announced that the Czech Republic would be among seven nations to be added to the Visa Waiver program. Czech citizens will finally be able to travel to the US without a Visa by simply registering online ahead of their planned trip. The waiver should go into effect within a month (towards the end of November 2008).
