Paul Rausnitz – A Czech/American Citizen Proud of His Origin (Paul Rausnitz – Ceskoamericky Obcan Hrdy na Svuj Puvod)

Clanek v CESTINE dole.

Almost two weeks ago, the Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg presented sixteen individuals and three organizations with the Gratias Agit award in appreciation of promoting the Czech Republic abroad. The award was given in a form of a crystal globe.  One of the recipients was Paul Rausnitz, a Czech citizen living abroad but always proud of his country.

Paul Rausnitz was only 11 years old when he was put in prison in Ostrava, North-East of the Czech Republic. It was right after the occupation of the Sudetenland in 1938 by Germans. Then he was thrown to Poland, where he was waiting, along with his parents and two brothers, for visas to America. During that time the war broke out and instead of traveling to the United States, he continued to move the opposite direction - to the Eastern part of Poland.

Rausnitz stated that he was lucky since he ended up in the area of Poland that was occupied by Russians and not Germans. His father worked as a physician there for about two years and then the family ended up in Turkmenistan. Then, the whole Rausnitz family joined the army and fought against the Germans. After the war, they moved back to the Czechoslovakia to live in their home town Jablonec.

The story does not end here as you can predict by the title of our article. Paul Rausnitz ended up the United States after all. The family moved to the US before the Russians occupied the country in 1968. This time they were lucky to leave on time. After so many years of moving and fighting for his country, Paul Rausnitz finally moved back to the Czech Republic in 1999 to start his life in his home country. He also started a manufacturing business there that he still runs.

Paul Rausnitz has never given up on his country. Even though he lived abroad for the majority of his life, he always loved his country. We believe that many of today’s expats feel the same. What do you think?

Cesky ministr zahranicnich veci, Karel Schwarzenberg, predal pred necelymi dvemi tydny sestnacti osobam a trem organizacim cenu Gratias Agit za prosazovani Ceske Republiky v zahranici.

Behem teto doby zacala valka a misto cesty do USA, Rausnitz pokracoval v presunu na opacnou stranu - do vychodni casti Polska.

Rodina se prestehovala do USA jeste pred ruskou okupaci v roce 1968. Tentokrat meli stesti a opustili zemi vcas. Zde take zacal zpracovatelskou firmu, kterou stale ridi.

Paul Rausnitz se nikdy nevzdal sve zeme. Vzdy miloval svou zemi, i kdyz zil v zahranici vetsinu sveho zivota. Verime, ze mnoho dnesnich emigrantu citi totez. Co si o tom myslite vy?

Find myself in the same prize-award category though with much

Find myself in the same prize-award category though with much less of a dramatic background. I have been an enormous fan and sponsor of Czech music for years though do not have Czech nationality.
