Have you seen the film All My Loved Ones? If so, you could see Sir Nicholas Winton. Sir Nicholas George Winton, born 19th May 1909, saved 669 Czechoslovak Jewish children from death in the World War II. The operation was known as “Kindertransport.”

Winton had a special relationship with the Jewish children because he was a Jew, who was baptized and raised a Christian. While Winton saved many children, he never applauded himself for this act or shared details about this operation. His wife actually found detailed information on the Kindertransport late in the 90s.

This unusual man had the opportunity to meet many “children,” which he had saved. You can see this moment in the Czech film named above. Sir Winton had recently an opportunity to meet with the British Queen Elizabeth II in Slovakia. The Queen visited Slovakia, together with Prince Philip. President Ivan Gasparovic welcomed her in front of the entrance to the Presidential Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II not only met with Sir Winton, but also with several of the 669 children. One of them was Milena, 79, who now lives in Great Britain and travelled to Slovakia just to thank the Queen for sending honey to her school, which she attended in her childhood. Finally, she was able to thank her in person.

Today we, Czechs abroad, can not imagine a situation where we would be separated from our family because of a war, but we know what it is like to live outside of our country in a free world. Many of the saved children survived WWII and found a home abroad, like many of us now, but their family ties have been separated forever. None the less, these people are grateful for this heroic act of Sir Winton, who we also admire and respect.

Winton mel zvlastni vztah k zidovskym detem, protoze on sam byl zid, ktery byl pokrten a vychovan jako krestan. Kralovna Alzbeta II se nejen setkala se Sirem Wintonem, ale i s nekolika ze jemnovanych 669 zachranenych deti. Jednim z nich byla Milena, 79, ktera nyni zije ve Velke Britanii a cestovala na Slovensko jen aby podekovala kralovne za posilani medu do skoly, kterou v detstvi navstevovala. Konecne mela moznost ji osobne podekovat.

My, Cesi v zahranici, si v dnesni dobe nedokazeme predstavit situaci, kdy by nas valka oddelila od rodiny, ale vime, jake to je zit mimo nasi zemi ve svobodnem svete. Mnoho z techto zachranenych deti prezilo valku a nasli domov v zahranici, jako nyni mnoho z nas, ale jejich rodinna pouta byla navzdy oddelena. Presto jsou tito lide vdecni za tento hrdinsky cin Sira Wintona, ktery take ziskava nas obdiv a uctu.
