CPL Celebrates 150 Years – Discover the History of Czechoslovakia (CPK Slavi 150 Let – Poznejte Historii Ceskoslovenska)

Many of you living in the United States probably know that Macy’s is celebrating 150 years in business. However, how many of you know that the Czech Parliamentary Library (CPL) I celebrating the same anniversary just today? Its oldest document is dated to November 24, 1858. The CPL is located at the premises of the Czech Parliament Chamber and is the oldest administrative center of the House of Czech Parliament. Its electronic version also lets you to see documents from any part of the world in the form of text, images and also sounds. If you are interested in the history and political data of Czechoslovakia, it is worth your visit.
The history of the Czech Parliamentary Library has been recorded since 1857, when the library of Provincial Administrative Committee for Bohemia was established during the Austrian monarchy and served members of the Assembly of the Czech land. Following the establishment of the separate Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, it also served as the base for the National Assembly Library. To date the library has accumulated almost 200 000 books and documents in the fields of law and political sciences, economics, modern history, philosophy, culture, encyclopedia, or sociology. It provided services and information to the Czech National Assembly, National Committee in Bohemia, the National Assembly of the Czechoslovak Republic, Federal Assembly of CSSR, CSFR (Czechoslovak Federative Republic) and now the Czech Republic. History lovers can see documents of the Imperial Parliament, Hungarian Assembly, Czech Regional Assembly and more.
The Electronic Parliamentary Library lets you view many documents as well. For example, you can see the Austrian Constitutional Imperial Assembly, Assembly of the Kingdom of Bohemia, Assembly of the Slovak Republic, documents from the Slovak National Council, the Czech National Council, the Federal Assembly of CSSR and CSFR, and more. During our short visit to the electronic library, we had a chance to view unemployment rates in Czechoslovakia (CSSR), information about import and export and state budgets of the CSSR, data on expenditures of the Czechoslovak State Post Office, information about the national anthem, flag and colors, original manuscripts, articles from newspapers and a lot of statistical data. We were very delighted to listen to the recording of the swearing in of the President T. G. Masaryk on the 24th of May 1934. We strongly recommend you to visit these priceless documents.

Mnoho z vas, zijicich ve Spojenych Statech pravdepodobne vi, ze Macy’s slavi 150 let od sveho vzniku. Kolik z vas ale vi, ze Ceska Parlamentni Knihovna (CPK) prave dnes slavi slavi totez vyroci? Jeji nejstarsi dokument je totiz datovan dnem 24. Listopadu 1858. CPK se nachazi v prostorach Poslanecke snemovny a je nejstarsim administrativnim celkem ceskeho parlamentu. Jeji elektronicka verze vam take umozni zhlednout dokumenty z kterekoliv casti sveta v podobe textu, obrazku a take zvukovych zaznamu. Historie knihovny je zaznamenana jiz od roku 1857, kdy v dobe rakouske monarchie vznikla v Praze knihovna Zemskeho spravniho vyboru pro Cechy a slouzila poslancum Snemu zemi Koruny ceske. Po vyhlaseni samostane Ceskoslovenske republiky v roce 1918 se take stala zakladem knihovny Narodniho shromazdeni. K dnesnimu dni knihovna nashromazdila temer 200 000 knih a dokumentu z oboru pravnich a politickych ved, ekonomie, modernich dejin, filozofie, kultury, encyklopedie a nebo sociologie. Poskytovala sluzby a informace Ceskemu zemskemu snemu, Zemskemu vyboru v Cechach, Narodnimu shromazdeni Ceskoslovenske republiky, Federalnimu shromazdeni CSSR, CSFR a nyni Parlamentu CR. Milovnici historie mohou napriklat zhlednout dokumenty z Risskeho snemu, Uherskeho snemu, Ceskeho zemskeho snemu a podobne.
Elektronicka Parlamentni Knihovna vam take umozni nahled na mnoho dokumentu jako napr.: Rakouskeho ustavodarneho riskeho snemu, Snemu kralovstvi Ceskeho, Snemu Slovenske republiky, Slovenske narodni rady, Ceske narodni rady, Federalniho shromazdeni CSSR and CSFR a podobne. Behem nasi kratke navstevy elektronicke knihovny jsme meli moznost zhlednout stavy nezamestnanosti v Ceskoslovensku (CSSR), informace o dovozu a vyvozu a statnim rozpoctu CSSR, udaje o vydajich Ceskoslovenske Statni Posty, informace o statni hymne, barvach a vlajce, puvodni rukopisy, clanky z novin a mnoho statistickych udaju. Nejvice nas potesil zvukovy zaznam slibu prezidenta T. G. Masaryka z 24. kvetna 1934. Vrele doporucujeme navstevu techto nedocenitelnych zaznamu.
