Teribear Project Will Also Help Czech Children (Projekt Teribear Take Pomuze Ceskym Detem)

December 5, 2008

Clanek v CESTINE dole (Kliknete na “Read the rest …”)

Last week famous Czech models got together to promote a fashion show, which started a new project named “Teribear.” The project is organized by a Czech model Tereza Maxova and her foundation together with an advertising agency Fabrika and a department store Interspar which focuses this time on the development of foster care and reduction of the number of children in institutional care. People will be able to purchase products with a symbol of a teddy bear and a certain amount from the sale will be used for these charitable purposes.

In our recent article we mentioned the new book by J.K. Rowling named “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” which is also focused on helping children in institutions in Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic. The most recent statistics even indicate that the Czech Republic is first amongst countries with the most children placed in institutional care (1300 children/100 thousand people). These sad statistics are finally summoning the attention of various organizations and famous personalities, and J.K. Rowling and Tereza Maxova’s efforts are great examples of benevolent deeds.

For the opening of project Teribear Tereza Maxova invited other Czech models as well. In Barrandov studio 8, she appeared along with Eva Herzigova, Pavlina Nemcova, and Karen Mulder in a fashion show called “Fashion for Kids: Bear in Mind,” which supports Czech disadvantaged children.

The Tereza Maxova Foundation has existed for over 11 years already and this time it is focusing more on the prevention of the placement of children in institutional care, rather than for its financial support. Maxova mentioned that many children who, in adulthood, leave Czech institutions do not know the concept of an everyday life; they do not know what it takes to pay rent or go fetch the mail. Institutions have little interest in children’s future and a small number of them make it to universities. In addition, they are receive only 30 minutes per day of human touch and often become the edge of society. The statistics also confirm that 40% of people who grew up in institutions, become homeless, and about 60% percent of prisoners grew up in institutional care.

Maxova therefore wants to prevent such statistics and the proceeds from sales of items with a logo of the teddy bear go to the prevention of the placement of children in institutes and for the development of alternative care. Why did she choose the bear? This concept came to mind about two years ago, when she found out about a project with a red ribbon (or just the red color), which brought attention to people living with HIV/AIDS. Maxova realized the value of color symbols in the United States and she thought of a similiar project for the Czech Republic. But then she opted for a teddy bear, which represents children more and can be placed on any objects.

What, then, should you buy in the Czech Republic to support this project? So far there are ten products for sale - handkerchiefs, key chains, T-shirts, mugs and other everyday objects. Interestingly, these products cost the same amount as other similar items without this symbol so people will not have to dig deeper into their pockets and they will also feel good about doing the right thing.

V Barandovskem studiu 8 se objevila spolecne s Evou Herzigovou, Pavlinou Nemcovou a take Karen Mulderovou na modni prehlidce pod nazvem “Fashion for Kids: Bear in Mind,” ktery podpori ceske znevyhodnene deti.

Maxova chce proto zabranit temto statistikam a vytezky z predmetu s logem medvidka pujdou na prevenci umisteni deti do statnich ustavu a rozvoj nahradni pece.

Lide si tak nebudou muset sahnout hloubeji do kapsy a take budou mit dobry pocit z ukonani dobreho skutku.
