The former president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel, was hospitalized and underwent throat surgery. After the surgery he suffered complications and was in serious conditions. His condition; however, just slightly improved compared to Wednesday morning. He is able to move and eat but he is very tired and needs a respiratory to breath. His wife, Dagmar Havlova, visits him on regular basis but even her visits are limited to give the former country leader a better opportunity for quicker recovery. 

Less than a year ago, Vaclav Havel ended up in the hospital. Last year he suffered from bronchitis and complained of a heart problem. His condition was not serious at that time but he needed intensive treatments. Havel used to be a heavy smoker and frequently experienced health problems. After his operation to remove lung cancer and other surgeries, he had breathing difficulties and needed extra care to treat other health problems caused by these invasive treatments.

Last week, on Sunday, he was hospitalized again. Havel complaining of shortness of breath and difficulties when swallowing and had to undergo throat surgery to treat an inflammation in his throat. His condition is stabilized and he is in full consciousness and able to move. Since his condition has worsened this morning, Havel has to use non-invasive respiratory support to help him breathe.

Many of Havel’s friends, former and present politicians and his wife are wishing for his quick recovery. His visits are limited to a minimum because they would tire him even more and that could worsen his health condition. Part of his right lung was removed due to the lung cancer (image - blue) and the bottom part of the lung was blocked (image - pink) with phlegm that caused breathing difficulties. Inflammation in his throat could travel down the lungs and worsen his situation. Currently, he is treated with antibiotics.

Havel was a very important icon in politics not only during communism, when he was put in jail for being against the regime, but even after as the president of Czechoslovakia and later of the Czech Republic. He was also a known playwright. His newest play called “Leaving” gained lots of success not only at home but also abroad. Hopefully, this well-educated and talented man will recover soon and surprise us with more interesting products of his creative mind.

Bývalý prezident České republiky Václav Havel byl hospitalizován a prodělal operaci krku. Po chirurgickém zákroku začaly zdravotní komplikace a jeho situace byla vážná, ale již se mírně zlepšila. Je schopen se pohybovat a jíst, ale je velmi unavený a potřebuje k dýchání masku. Jeho manželka Dagmar Havlová, ho navštěvuje pravidelně, ale i její návštěvy jsou omezené, aby se bývalý vůdce země rychleji zotavil.

Před necelým rokem Václav Havel skončil v nemocnici. Loni trpěl bronchitidou a stěžoval si na problémy se srdcem. Jeho stav nebyl vážný, ale potřeboval intenzivní léčbu. Havel byl těžkým kuřákem a měl často zdravotní problémy. Po operaci pro odstranění rakoviny plic a dalších operacích, měl Havel potíže s dýcháním a musel prodělávat extra zdravotní péče k léčení jeho dalších zdravotních problémů způsobených těmito invazivními operacemi.

Minulý týden v neděli byl opět hospitalizován. Stěžoval si na dušnost a obtíže při polykání a musel podstoupit operaci krku k odstranění zánětu v krku. Jeho stav je nyní stabilizovaný. Havel je ale při plném vědomí a může se pohybovat. Vzhledem k tomu, že se jeho zdravotní stav ráno zhoršil, musí používat non-invazivní respirační masku, která mu pomáhá s dýcháním.

Mnozí Havlovi přátelé, bývalí i současní polici a jeho žena doufají v rychlé zotavení. Jeho návštěvy jsou omezené na minimum, protože by ho ještě více unavily a mohly by zhoršit jeho zdravotní stav. Část jeho pravé plíce byla odstraněna v důsledku rakoviny plic (obrázek - modrá část plíce) a spodní část plic byla blokována hleny (obrázek - růžová část plíce), což způsobilo potíže s dýcháním. Pokud by se zánět přesunul do plic, jeho situace by se ještě mohla zhoršit. V současné době je léčen antibiotiky.

Havel byl velmi důležitou ikonou v politice a to nejen během komunismu, kdy byl ve vězení pro odpor ke komunistickému režimu, ale i poté, co se stal prezidentem Československa a později České republiky. Byl také známým dramatikem. Jeho nejnovější hra zvaná “Odcházení” získala hodně úspěchů nejen doma, ale i v zahraničí. Doufejme, že tento vzdělaný a talentovaný muž se brzy uzdraví a brzy nás překvapí s ještě zajímavějšími výsledky jeho tvůrčího ducha.
