Today the official act of passing the EU glass relay pin to the next country, Sweden, ended the EU presidency by the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic presided over the European Union for an entire six months. This special task was very challenging for the country taking into consideration the worldwide economic situation, the dissolution of the government and other activities associated with this task. We should not forget about the infamous Entropa display in Brussels that made our presidency less forgettable than the colorful logo and its slogan “Europe in Sweet Harmony.”

The Swedish Presidency motto is the fight against the consequences of the economic crisis and against the climate change. The country has already taken this role once before in the beginning of 2001; thus, this is its second rotation. The official website of the Swedish Presidency is www.se2009.eu. Sweden, the Czech Republic and France form the Trio Presidency to maintain the continuity of the running of the Council. Each of the countries, however, holds a six month rotation. The Czech Republic’s turn will be in 14 years. Can you predict what it will be like?

Dnes se konal oficiální akt předání skleněné štafety EU další zemi, Švédsku, a tím pro Českou republiku skončilo předsednictví Evropské unie. Česká republika předsedala Evropské unii po celých šest měsíců. Tento jedinečný úkol byl velmi náročný pro zemi s přihlédnutím na hospodářskou situaci ve světě, rozpuštění vlády a na další činnosti související s tímto úkolem. Neměli bychom zapomínat na nechvalnou plastiku jménem Entropa, která byla zveřejněna v Bruselu, neméně známé barevné logo a slogan “Evropě to osladíme”.

Motto švédského předsednictví boj proti důsledkům hospodářské krize a proti klimatickým změnám. Tato země již plnila úlohu předsednictví již na začátku roku 2001, čili nyní začala svou druhou rotaci. Oficiální internetové stránky švédského předsednictví jsou www.se2009.eu. Švédsko, Česká republika a Francie tvoří Trio předsednictví, aby se tak zachovala kontinuita fungování Rady.
