Czech Prime Minister Miroslav Topolanek and Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Vondra presented the new logo yesterday, which the Czech Republic will use during their term of Presidency for the European Union. The colorful logo represents the diversity and openness and also the web portal of the Czech presidency of the EU and will be available to the public on the 1st of December 2008 and fully from the new year.
The author of this logo is a graphic designer Tomas Pakosta from Litomysl. The logo was honored as a “smart design” symbolizing a country of intelligent and smart people. The logo competition began in July 2007 and a total of 350 designs were entered into this contest. The winning design, however, stood out of all of them. Continue reading →

The current President of the United States George W. Bush, has been actively involved in the abolition of U.S. visas for Czech and Slovak citizens. In January 2009, he will be replaced by Barack Obama. According to Ceske Noviny article, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, said that he wants to visit the USA and personally say goodbye to him. He will do so either this year or early next year.
Last week Topolanek had to cancel his trip to the United States because of political tensions in the Czech Parliament. But now he does not plan to cancel this trip. It will be probably his first time flying to the USA without the visa requirement.
The new initiative of the Czech Prime Minister, Miroslav Topolanek, led to four new arrangements of the Czech national anthem. The public airing, according to Mlada Fronta Dnes, will be on Sunday, September 28th, to celebrate the national holiday of Czech Statehood. Topolanek also declared that these new versions of the national anthem were performed by the orchestra of the National Theatre in Prague conducted by Jiri Belohlavek.
